Friends, in our own way, we have all been in this situation where hope seems to fade away. God is seemingly silent during human suffering and misery. On a grand worldwide scale, and on the small personal scale – we all experience the four days of the tomb. God is not in fact, absent but sometimes he works silently. God so loves us brothers and sisters that he refuses to let death have the last say. God so loves us that he sends his only beloved Son, to die for us and rise from the dead, that all who believe in him might have eternal life. He dies to prove to us how much God loves us. Jesus comes not simply to heal us a little bit, but to raise the dead to new life.

To live with the knowledge of having encountered Christ means that we realize the immensity of the task before us, because we like the blind man cannot stay silent. Part of the man’s healing was to walk through the city with mud on his eyes, and then to return healed so that all could see him. And immediately, people begin to question him. So also, as people will inevitably question any Christian with the courage to live according to the new law of Christ. If we are willing to live according to the new law of grace, we will draw many people to also encounter him.

Heaven – unending communion with God – that is what you are made for. We ought to long to hear those words; come blest of my Father and enter into the kingdom prepared for you. Jesus gives us a very clear measure today of what is necessary to in communion with him. The measure of whether you are whether you are ready for heaven is to consider whether you are ready to do as he does – to lay down your life for the least of these. If we refuse communion with Christ in those around us, we cannot hope to be with him in glory. Yet the opposite is also true, if we love like him, we will reign in glory with Him in the communion of the Spirit to the Glory of God the Father!

We don't like to admit that Hell is a reality - it makes us uncomfortable to think about. Yet, Jesus speaks often speaks of it. No one goes to Hell accidently, and “God predestines no one to go to hell; for this, a willful turning away from God (a mortal sin) is necessary, and persistence in it until the end." God loves us so much that he gives us the freedom to choose against loving him. But we can always choose to return to him, while we live there is hope. Turn to the Lord and be saved!

These are the conditions for each of us to win at the game of life. Death would have no great terrors for you if you had a quiet conscience.… Then why not keep clear of sin instead of running away from death?
